The word slot is a late 14c. French word meaning “hollow at the base of the throat above the breastbone.” It is from Old French esclot, which is itself a synonym of Old Norse slod. Its meaning as a fastening is recorded in the 1520s, while its use as a word for a slot machine dates back to the 1880s. This usage of the word reveals a history of its origin.

The Slot component was created to be reusable, and its functionality can be reused by other components. A v-slot enables you to bind more than one value in one place, and you can also pass functions to scoped slots.
