The main goal of the game is to make the best hand possible. Players may choose to check, call, raise, or fold.<\/p>\n<p>When a player wishes to bet, they should raise their chip or place an oversized chip in the pot. If another player raises the bet, they must match it.<\/p>\n<p>Each betting interval begins with a player making a bet. These bets are collected into a central pot at the end of the round.<\/p>\n<p>After each new round of cards, a betting round occurs. This is followed by a &#8220;showdown&#8221;, when all the players&#8217; hands are revealed.<\/p>\n<p>At the end of the showdown, the highest-ranking hand wins the pot. If a tie exists, the winnings are split equally.<\/p>\n<p>The earliest form of poker was probably poque, a French game that evolved into a variant of Spanish primero. Around 1900, lowball and split-pot poker were introduced. Another variation of the game was stud poker.<\/p>\n<p>Before the start of the game, the dealer assigns a value to each chip. They are usually made of plastic or ceramic. Generally, the white chip is the lowest valued chip. Dark-colored chips are worth two, four, or five reds, ten, 20 or 25 whites, or a single black.<\/p>\n<p>The dealer is the last player to shuffle the cards.
